โ€” A goal in three parts

Three numbers.
No spreadsheet needed.

Every savings goal in LazeeFish is just an envelope with three extra fields. That's it. The math falls out of the rest of the system.

๐ŸŽฏ

Target

How much you need. $1,200 for a vacation. $500 for car registration. $5,000 for an emergency fund. Whatever the number is, LazeeFish tracks progress against it.

Deadline

When you need it by. Optional, but useful. LazeeFish flags overdue one-time goals so you know when to course-correct, and rolls recurring deadlines forward automatically.

Cadence

One-time, monthly, quarterly, or annual. Set Christmas to reset every December and your insurance to reset every January. Your future self does the saving in advance.

From wishful thinking

01

Create an envelope

Vacation. Christmas. Emergency Fund. New Roof. Anything you save toward gets its own envelope โ€” same as any other category in envelope budgeting.

02

Add a target

Type a dollar amount. Optionally a deadline. Pick a cadence โ€” Never (one-time), Monthly, Quarterly, or Annually. The envelope is now a savings goal.

03

Fund it from your monthly budget

Add the goal envelope to your Monthly Budget and pick how much goes in each month. $100/month into Vacation. $50/month into Christmas. Done.

04

Watch the dashboard fill in

Every goal shows up on your dashboard with a progress bar and percentage. Met, Overdue, or just steadily climbing โ€” at a glance, you know where every goal stands.

05

Skip the allocation when it's full

Toggle Skip if goal met on the row, and once the envelope hits the target, your monthly budget redirects that money to your clearing envelope instead of overflowing the goal. No manual rebalancing.

โ€” Recurring goals

Annual stuff,
quietly handled.

Christmas comes every December. Car registration every March. Insurance every January. The expenses are predictable โ€” the surprise is only that you're not ready.

Set a goal to reset annually with a $600 target and a December 1 deadline. LazeeFish funds it through the year, marks it met, then quietly rolls the deadline forward to next December and starts over. You never have to remember.

โ€” Common questions

Savings goals FAQ.

What's the difference between a savings goal and a sinking fund?

Mostly nothing. A sinking fund is the older accounting term for the practice of saving small amounts steadily toward a known future expense. "Savings goal" is the consumer-friendly term. In LazeeFish they're the same feature: an envelope with a target.

How is this different from regular envelope budgeting?

A regular envelope just has a balance. A goal envelope adds a target, a deadline, and a cadence โ€” so you get a progress bar, a met/overdue indicator, and the option to skip the allocation once it's funded. Your existing envelopes still work the same; goals are just a layer on top.

What happens when I hit the target?

The dashboard flags the goal as Met. If it's a one-time goal, the envelope just sits there until you spend it. If it's recurring (monthly/quarterly/annual), LazeeFish rolls the deadline forward to the next period and the cycle starts again. If you turned on Skip if goal met in your monthly budget, the next allocation skips this envelope and goes to your clearing envelope instead.

Can I have a goal without a deadline?

Yes. Deadlines are optional. An emergency fund or a long-running savings target works fine without one โ€” you'll still see the target amount and progress percentage on the dashboard.

Does this cost extra?

No. Savings goals are part of the free plan. Unlimited goals, unlimited envelopes, no upgrade required. See pricing.

What if I overfund a goal?

Nothing breaks. The progress bar caps at 100%, and the envelope balance keeps the extra. If you'd rather route excess elsewhere, turn on Skip if goal met โ€” once the target is hit, your monthly budget will redirect that envelope's allocation back to your clearing envelope until you raise the target or spend the savings.
