Use cases
One tagging system, infinite ways to use it
Tags are just labels — use them however makes sense for your life.
Budget envelopes
Track spending categories without locking money into separate accounts. Tag transactions and see totals per envelope in your monthly report.
People & ownership
Split shared finances clearly. Tag each transaction by who it belongs to for easy reconciliation at the end of the month.
Projects & goals
Tracking a home renovation, a side project, or a vacation fund? Tag every related transaction and see total spend at a glance.
Tax categories
Flag deductible expenses as you go so tax season is a one-click export rather than a month-long dig through receipts.

Getting started
Using Tags
From zero to tagged in four steps.
-
Go to Setup → Tags and create your tags Click "+ New Tag" and enter a name. Create as many as you like — there's no limit. Start with a few categories you care about and add more later.
-
When posting a transaction, select one or more tags The tag picker appears in the transaction form. Type to search, then click to select. Multiple tags are allowed on a single transaction.
-
In the Posted Transactions view, use the tag filter to find matching transactions Click the Tags filter bar above the transaction list, select one or more tags, and the list instantly narrows to matching transactions.
-
In Auto-Categorization rules, assign default tags to matching transactions When creating an Automated Posting Rule (Setup → Automated Posting Rules), add tags to the rule. Every future transaction that matches will be tagged automatically — zero manual effort.
From the blog: Tags are most powerful when they work alongside a structured budget method — Envelopes vs. Every Other Budget Method shows how the envelope approach compares to other systems, and How to Start Envelope Budgeting walks through building your category structure from scratch.
Your tags, your system.
LazeeFish doesn't impose a category hierarchy. Build the labeling system that actually fits how you think about money.
